Why You Should Not Be a Solopreneur

Why You Should Not Be a Solopreneur Finding a perfect job is something that is only a dream for most of us. While some jobs do not offer a decent pay, others may not offer enough opportunities to showcase your potential. In such a scenario, more people are creating and running their own businesses, single-handedly. These individuals who run businesses without any support staff or employees are known as solopreneurs. © Shutterstock.com | mavoIn this article, we shall be learning more about 1) solopreneurs, 2) what makes them different from entrepreneurs,  and 3) some reasons why you should not be one!SOLOPRENEUR: A BRIEFWho Is a Solopreneur? In the simplest of terms, solopreneurs are entrepreneurs who run their business alone or single-handedly. These are independent professionals who are engaged in building a personal brand by performing each of the business tasks themselves. They are themselves responsible for achieving personal and financial success from scratch and do not have any employees or support staff working for them. The term ‘solopreneur’ is a broad term that is used to refer to different professionals including freelancers, consultants, small business owners and on-call workers. These days, a lot of people are going the ‘solo’ way and starting their own businesses. Solopreneurs are mostly driven by a passion for what they love doing, combined with self-confidence, courage, an d multi-tasking abilities. They are usually more inclined toward doing everything themselves and hence may not feel the need to hire anyone. However, after spending a few years working alone, some solopreneurs hire certain workers in order to meet the needs of the growing business. Creating a job for yourself takes time, motivation, dedication and, of course, a lot of hard work. Leading it to success thereafter further adds to the challenging nature of solopreneurship.Characteristics of a SolopreneurIt is true that the internet and many other resources available online have made it possible for people to consider becoming solopreneurs. But it takes more than just the internet to convert this dream into reality. There are many characteristics or features that an individual must possess to become a successful ‘solo’ business owner, such as:Passion and optimism An unflinching passion for your idea or business plan is something that acts as a driving force for those who wish to bec ome solopreneurs. But passion often comes from optimism, which is also a characteristic trait of solopreneurs. Without a positive frame of mind, no business owner can move forward, and the same holds true for solopreneurs as well.Courage and confidence A solopreneur must have a great deal of courage and confidence to stay the course without giving up. If you wish to go solo, then you must not only take risks but also trust in your own abilities.Extrovert and introvert As a solopreneur, you would need to be both an extrovert and an introvert. On one hand, you must have superb people skills to communicate with business associates on a daily basis; on the other hand, you must be comfortable working alone for long periods of time. You must be able to make yourself comfortable in your own space but should also have the ability to socialize to take your business forward.Creativity with getting resources Most solopreneurs when starting their business may find themselves low on resources . Thus, you must possess creativity for getting resources and acquiring the tools needed to take the business forward. Someone who doesn’t possess this quality of resourcefulness may not be able to meet the challenges of running a business alone.Versatility From marketing to sales, and from finances to brainstorming ideas, a solopreneur has to handle each aspect of the business himself and to do this, he may need to be extremely versatile. If you plan to become a solopreneur, then you may need to acquire not only a large pool of knowledge but also several multi-dimensional skills to succeed.Financial and tech savvy As a solopreneur, you need to possess exceptional financial skills in order to make the most of your money and to utilize and invest it well. Without proper financial knowledge, even a great business idea can fail. Similarly, you must be tech-savvy to be able to make use of technology and the internet for promoting and running your business well.Negotiation skills and salesmanship To grow your business, you will also need exceptional negotiating abilities and excellent salesmanship. From clients to service providers, and from customers to third party vendors, a solopreneur needs to negotiate on a daily basis in order to move ahead and get the best out of a situation.Creative Only someone who can think creatively and has an innovative vision for the future can conduct a business single-handedly. Creativity forms the mainstay of the work profile of a solopreneur and proves useful not just during the initial steps but for the duration of the business.Differences between a Solopreneur and an EntrepreneurIt is a common notion that those running their own businesses are called ‘entrepreneurs’, but the same definition can also be applied to ‘solopreneurs’. However, in spite of the slight similarity in the definitions, there are many differences between the two. While, on one hand, a solopreneur works independently without any workers, an entr epreneur may work with a group of people including staff members, employees, and consultants. The following are some of the other differences between solopreneurs and entrepreneurs:Differences in aspirations and objectives: There are subtle differences between the aspirations and objectives of solopreneurs and entrepreneurs. While the goal of an entrepreneur is to make money, a solopreneur may be more focused on carving a brand or name for himself in the market. The main objective of a solopreneur is to set up and stabilize his business. The risk-taking scope for solopreneurs is usually less than in the case of entrepreneurs.Differences in hiring employees: Entrepreneurs need to hire employees in order to meet their objective of maximizing profits in the fastest way, but solopreneurs are not focused on hiring anyone. They may make less money but ensure they keep 100% of the equity. However, they may use the services of freelancers or consultants every once in a while for help on cer tain matters. Entrepreneurs, on the other hand, may not hesitate to hire people if that is what it takes to achieve their objectives faster.Difference in attitude managers vs. workers: Entrepreneurs run a business with the aim of making money, even if it takes hiring workers, and then eventually selling off the business when it has made enough profit. They love the challenge of establishing and running the enterprise but may not be too keen on doing the work by themselves. They thus have a ‘manager’ attitude. In contrast, solopreneurs are keen on doing what they love and converting it into a one-man business. Even if this doesn’t ensure a good income or a handsome profit, solopreneurs are comfortable pursuing their passion without sharing their work responsibilities.Entrepreneurs are focused on building a company: Another major difference between the two is that entrepreneurs are focused on building a profit-spinning company while solopreneurs are more inclined toward creatin g their own small space in the industry. Entrepreneurs tend to be out building connections and expanding their network, but solopreneurs spend hours getting things off the ground from the office to turn their dream into a reality.Solopreneurs are not bothered about a buyout: Entrepreneurs work hard on building and expanding their businesses but may not be particularly attached to it. All they aim for is to convert the business into a profitable venture so that they can sell it out. But solopreneurs are not bothered about a buyout and do not plan to hand over their much-loved venture to anyone else. They passionately love what they do and wish to keep it their own till the very end. However, there are many entrepreneurs who might turn down buyout offers and solopreneurs who may agree to sell the business out in time if the situation demands it.WHY YOU SHOULD NOT GO THE SOLOPRENEUR WAYWhile most of you may be attracted by the idea of becoming a solopreneur or taking on the challenge s ingle-handedly, it is important to know that this is not the most rewarding or fun path to choose for your future. Starting, running and then trying to make your business a success can be very scary, especially if you are not equipped with boundless knowledge and the skills to implement this knowledge. Not only is the path laden with uncertainties but it also demands a lot of hard work. The following are some of the other reasons why you should probably give up on the idea of being a solopreneur.1.     You are your biggest roadblockOne of the main reasons why you should not consider becoming a solopreneur is that you are your biggest roadblock. Since you are the only person involved in the business and have to handle each of the tasks yourself, if you do not do some work, then it won’t be done at all. This means that if you don’t feel motivated to perform the various duties on certain days, you won’t have anyone to lean on and may prove to your own biggest enemy. If you are co nsidering going the solo way, you must first consider your own potential and motivation level before taking the plunge.2.     Separation of personal and business finances is difficultWhen you open up a business of your own, you tend to set up a different account for your professional finances. But even with the separation of accounts, keeping the money separate can be very difficult. So, for example, if you run out of money in your personal account, you will be forced to borrow some from your business account and vice-versa. But mixing of finances is inevitable as a solopreneur and often leads to legal hassles.3.     Can be exhaustingFrom the initial steps of planning your business to handling marketing, and from organizing your finances to making the sales, you are the one who will be looking after all departments of the business, day after day. Not only does this prove physically exhausting but also mentally tiring. So even if you are on a vacation or an off day, your mind will be still on the tasks that need to be performed like the mail that has to be sent or the payment that is to be received. Being a solopreneur can be really exhausting, and most people may crack under the pressure. This is another reason why one must avoid going this way.4.     Lack of collaborationSince there are no employees or team members with whom you can share ideas, you may often experience a feeling of lack of collaboration as a solopreneur. If you are someone who likes to brainstorm ideas and work within a team as a joint force, then this field of work is not suitable for you. Solopreneurs do not have the luxury of delivering results in collaboration with a group of people and have to trust their own judgment at each step of the business.5.     Things can get extremely lonelyOne of the biggest drawbacks of being a solopreneur is that things tend to get extremely lonely around the workplace. There is no one with whom to share office gossip, no one with whom to take a coffee brea k and no one with whom to discuss your plans. It is a job where you may have to spend long hours in your office (or home office) alone and share the company of only a computer system. If you have been working with a company or a corporate entity for a long time, you may not be able to adjust to the quiet life of a solopreneur.6.     Experiencing failure can be overwhelming as a solopreneurAnother reason why you should not consider being a solopreneur is that experiencing failure can prove to be very overwhelming. Since you work very hard on building your business, experiencing failure can be very disappointing and may mean starting over from square one. Also, there is no one with whom you can share your failure, and you have to bear the brunt of it all on your own. Not everyone has the strength to deal with this alone.7.     Lack of resourcesWhen you work alone, it is you who has to acquire all the resources and make them last for the maximum amount of time. But it can be very diffi cult to ensure a good supply of resources all the time, especially when you have much more important matters to take care of. Also, not everyone has the skill to ask for help or maintain a constant stream of both financial and other resources. This may lead to a lack of resources which can prove fatal for your business.8.     Lack of validationThe reason why teams tend to produce better results than individuals is because each member can validate or improve the ideas of the others. Every individual craves validation and appreciation, which is something that is not possible for solopreneurs. You won’t be able to get feedback or have your ideas critiqued when you work solo, and this can result in a narrow way to approach different matters.9.     Not for everyoneSolopreneurship is not for everyone. Only those with a gamut of skills, unique characteristics and exceptional multi-tasking abilities can achieve success in this path of work. Solopreneurship is:Not ideal for those who are n ot good at networking Only with exceptional communication and networking skills can one succeed as a solopreneur. These skills are needed to make and maintain contacts, find more business and obtain resources. Thus, those who do not have networking abilities may not be able to work well as solopreneurs. Not ideal for those who cannot multi-task Someone who cannot juggle between different tasks and manage each effectively may not be the best candidate for solopreneurship. This field of work requires completion of a large number of tasks successfully on a daily basis and only a person with these skills can fit into this profile. Not ideal for those who lack financial knowledge If you are someone who is scared of working with and managing business financials on your own, then this field is probably not for you. From handling accounts to allocating budgets, you will have to have exceptional financial knowledge to succeed as a solopreneur. Not ideal for those who are used to working as a team if you are someone who is only comfortable working in a team or among a group of people, then you will find the field of solopreneurship extremely tough to handle. Here, you are a one-man team with no support staff or colleagues with which to share challenges. Not ideal for those who are not tech-savvy Not only does a solopreneur need to be familiar with technology, software and the internet, but he also needs to be an expert at these. Only a tech-savvy individual can dream of succeeding as a solo-business owner. Not ideal for those who do not like taking risks If you hate taking risks and prefer working within your comfort zone, then you should probably find a nine-to-five job that offers job security. A solopreneur has to take risks each step of the way to move toward brighter possibilities, however scary the risks might seem.10.   Can be stressfulPerforming a large number of tasks day after day and being responsible for success single-handedly can prove to be very stressfu l. From the stress of making money to the stress of acquiring resources, the list is endless. The load of the work responsibilities and the possibility of failure can make anyone crumble, while the stress may also affect the performance of the individual.

Not Lowering The Drinking Age - 989 Words

Not Lowering the Drinking Age There are many different views on drinking alcohol, especially underage drinking. Everyone has different views on the drinking age. Some think it should be lowered and others believe that it should be raised. Then some believe that it should remain the same at the age of twenty-one years old. China and USA on Media Censorship-Free-Samples-Myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Compare the Media Censorship of China and USA. Answer: Introduction Censorship of internet content takes place in many shapes ranging from government blocking the dissemination of political opinion to blacklisting the pornographic private website. According to ONI data, Iran is ranked as the worlds worst country in term of filtering political, social and internet tools. After Iran, China was ranked due to strict rules relating to social and internet tools. On April 12, Chinese users were cut off from international websites, probably due to a reconfiguration of the firewall. In 2014, China stood at number third from last place for internet censorship (Linder, 2016.). On the other hand, The U.S. possesses protection of freedom of speech and expression in opposition to federal, state, and local government censorship. US provide ample of freedom in terms of media. These fortifications expand to the Internet, though; the U.S. government has suppressed websites. While comparing the media censorship with China, USA has more liberty and allows audience to h ave a free access. As per the report published by Reporters without Border United States stands at 41st place in the world out of 180 countries in requisites to their Press Freedom Index from 2016; whereas Reporters without Borders has mentioned China's press position as "very serious". They have rated it worst on their five-point scale (Xu, Mao and Halderman, 2011). China and USA- Censorship of Internet Internet censorship in China is severe due to a wide mixture of laws and administrative regulations. The Government has created More than sixty Internet regulations which have been implemented by local branches of state-owned ISPs, companies. China Internet control policy is considered to be more extensive and more sophisticated than in any other country in the world. The governmental authorities in China not only block website content but also watch the Internet access of persons. Due to this the China internet is referred "The Great Firewall of China." As reported by the Amnesty International China has the largest documentation number of imprisoned journalists and cyber-protester in the world"(Guo and Feng, 2012). Internet censorship in the USA is the containment of in turn published or vision on the Internet in the United States. Government possesses security of freedom of speech and expression against federal, state, and local government censorship. Censorship is still alive and finely practiced in the United States. The Government is supposed to behave cleverly in term of providing freedom of free internet usage. Western efforts to organize the Internet meantime have gained Chinese solutions over time. Western governments, together with the United States, show stepping efforts to censor Internet search results as per the transparency report" published by Google (Robbinson, 2017). China and USA- Censorship of News Media organizations are supposed to meet the public interest. Occasionally that's at probability with the corporation owners who manage conventional media voices. Media censorship reminds of the government way to alter or ban the news. In USA, even the government bodies are raising censorship issues by keeping little news from reaching to the public. In the recent time, the outburst of citizen journalism and internet stage has created a way for the news to reach people in a much easier way. Recently The National Press Club has condemned Donald Trumps barring selected media outlets from a White House press conference. This is a true incidence of an unparalleled act intensely distressing (Flew, 2007). The government in China is banning the rights of news house to converse information. They have full control over the website and in case in any of the news channel not adhering to the guidance are banned from further publication. Chinas constitution has allowed citizens to enjoy freedom of speech and press, but the murkiness of Chinese media regulations permits authorities to breakdown on news by asserting exposure to state secrets (Xu, 2017). China and USA- Censorship of Art Censorship comes in many forms. By censoring the art the government tries to restrict artists from expressing any radical idea. Throughout 2016 in the beginning of 2017, the United States has seen manifold cases of censorship of art in public spaces and schools. The US government and local bodies has been censoring Murals on public walls on policies on the productions of plays and musicals. They have been targeted due to multiple reasons due to their content (Chadwick and Howard, 2010). Whereas in China, the censorship of Art is a big challenge and the prominent Chinese artists are regularly censored and compulsory asked to comply with government restrictions. Ai Weiwei is one of the artists who have been censored, berated, arrested, and exiled, due to his artistic career. Their artistic careers are generally been derailed by an overzealous government. This has been restricting free speech and free artistic appearance by the average person. Although Globalization has hit the country increasing opportunities of Capitalism and foreign investment but the artists are still not free to create of their choice. First and foremost the matter related to the politics is being mostly censored and forcefully forbidden by the government authorities (Wise, 2016). Conclusion To conclude, internet is normally observed as the widely used source of exchanging information. Nevertheless, the freedom and democracy on Internet is mostly questioned about. Pornography and abhorrence literature are usually used to entice Internet surfers concentration to generate profits. By representing the rights of the community and the authority of a state the internet censorship has become effective. The government has the total liability to censor the internet consequently as to defend citizens from destructive and fake information. In the recent time the government bodies are keeping a check over the possible fester of social and ethical principles. By Internet censorship the government in both the countries are carefully keeping an eye on the freedom of people. Censoring the Internet would affect the public to communicate. Owners of Internet should be acquainted with of the probable in order and public that can be established in this medium. Censorship is not desirable as a whole in any country due to its ill-effects on public opinion. Censorship should not be cost at the freedom of expression of people in any country. Hope Is the Thing with Feathers Analysis Essay Example

Hope Is the Thing with Feathers Analysis Paper Emily Dickinson might be called an artisan, since most of her poems have fewer than thirty lines, yet she deals with the most deep topics in poetry: death, love, and humanity’s relations to God and nature. Her poetry not only impresses by its on going freshness but also the animation. Her use of language and approachness of her subjects in unique ways, might attribute to why â€Å"Hope is the thing with feathers† is one of her most famous works. Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts on December 10, 1830. Born to Edward Dickinson and Emily Norcross Dickinson, she was the second of three children. Her brother was named Austin, and her sister was named Lavina. Her father, Edward, was a Whig lawyer, who served as treasurer of Amherst College. He was also elected to one term in Congress. Up until Dickinson was ten, she lived in a mansion, built by her grandfather. She often was seen as frail by her parents; therefore, kept home from school. The religious faith that resided in the Dickinson household was one called evangelical Calvinism. Evangelical Calvinism is a belief that humans are born totally depraved and can be saved only if they undergo a life-altering conversion, in which they accept the vicarious sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Habegger n. p. ). Neither Emily nor Lavina married; however, when Austin married, him and his wife lived next door to his parents. Emily Dickinson excelled in subjects such as Latin and the sciences. After determining that Mount Holyoke Female Seminary (the college she was going to at the time and is now Mount Holyoke College) was uncongenial, she left the college. The poetry of Ralph Waldo Emerson was the first poetry Emily Dickinson had the pleasure to be introduced to by one of her father’s law students, Benjamin F. Newton. The works of Elizabeth Barret Browning played a formative role for Emily, confirming the idea of female greatness and stimulating her ambition. Restricting social activity, she cultivated epistolary relationships with a few people. In 1855, Edward, Lavina, and Emily left the house and headed to Washington D. C. On return the sisters made a trip to Philadelphia, where the poet heard the preachings of Charles Wadsworth. Seventy years later, Emily’s niece, Martha Dickinson Bianchi, claimed that Emily had fallen in love with Wadsworth, who was married. Later Bianchi believes that Dickinson grandly renounced him. This story is not credited because there is no evidence that the minister returned the poet’s love (Habegger, n. p. ) After Wadsworth’s death in 1882, Emily remembered him as â€Å"My Philadelphia,† â€Å"My dearest earthly friend,† and â€Å"My shepherd from ‘Little Girlhood’ (Habegger n. p. ). Events such as: a bitter Norcross family lawsuit, financial collapse of local railroad that had been promoted by her father, and a religious revival that renewed the pressure to â€Å"convert†- made the years 1857 and 1858 deeply troubling for Dickinson and promoted her withdrawal. In 1862, Dickinson wrote to Thomas Wentworth Higginson. She sent him four of her poems asking ‘Are you too deeply occupied to say if my verse is alive? ’ (Pearson Education). Although he didn’t encourage her to publish her work, she still continued to write poetry in her own style. Emily Dickinson’s was probably one of the most private literary careers. One poem, A Valentine, was in the Amherst College Indicator in February 1850. Another Valentine was published in the Springfield Republican newspaper in February 1852. Various times throughout the 1860s, Republican would print four or more of her poems, out of the nearly forty poems she sent to Samuel Bowles, one of the papers editors. Among the four were three of her most famous works: I taste a liquor never brewed, Safe in their Alabaster Chambers, and A narrow Fellow in the Grass. Another poem was published in 1866 in a New York journal called The Round Table. Success is counted Sweetest was the last poem published which was in 1978. Over her entire lifetime, Emily Dickinson only published eight of the 1,775 poems she is known to have written. Emily Dickinson died May 15, 1886. After her death, Lavina found manuscripts of her sisters poems and looked to Mabel Loomis Todd for help in the publication. Much poetry still unpublished, a quarrel over real estate led to an estrangement, both in possession of a portion of the manuscripts. The love affair between Mabel Loomis Todd and Austin, Dickinson’s brother, not only affected the families of both but also the posthumous editing and publishing of Emily’s poetry (Pearson Education). Dickinson used imagery and metaphor to help describe why hope is the thing with feathers. In the first stanza, the metaphorical image of a bird is given as an abstract idea of hope. By giving hope feathers, Dickinson created an image of hope in our minds. The last three lines of the fifth stanza she metaphorically describes what a person who destroys hope feels like. â€Å"And sore must be the storm. † â€Å"That could abash the little bird. † â€Å"That kept so many warm. †(Essortment). Someone who destroys hope with a storm of anger and negativity feels the pain they cause in others. Dickinson uses a powerful image of a person abashing the bird of hope that gives comfort and warmth to most. In the second stanza, â€Å"That perches in the soul,† is an example of imagery that is used to desribe hope. That particular line is used to imply that hope perches or roots in our soul. The soul is the shelter for hope. The imagery of a bird’s continuous song is used in the third and fourth stanzas, â€Å"And sings the tune without words,† â€Å"And never stops at all,† to represent eternal hope. Also Dickinson uses a line from the fifth stanza,†And sweetest in the gale is heard,† to describe that a gale’s song of hope is the sweetest in the wind. Emily Dickinson’s poem form and use of voice is one that is very unique. Her dramatic monologues, always with herself as personas, portray rich complexities of human emotion- elation and depression, faith and doubt, hope and despair. Although her unusual word usages and oblique approaches to a subject call for multiple readings and multiple interpretations, her direct, first-person voice makes a lot of her poetry easily accessible. Although Emily Dickinson did not use an exact rhyme (see, tree), she still used forms of rhyme, yet they weren’t regularly used by modern poets. Her poetry shows what fine effects can be accomplished with these rhymes. Dickinson worked with identical rhyme (sane, insane) often. She also worked with eye rhyme (though, through), and vowel rhyme (see, buy) (Dickinson Oerview). The word trick most people believe Dickinson used is very effective because it expands contexual possibilities, increases the reader’s awareness, and deepens the emotional experience poems recreate. The content and ideas being discussed in the poem are really understandable. The idea of hope in â€Å"extremity† and hope in the â€Å"chillest land/And on the strangest sea,† is a quite abstract way of distinguishing the world. There is a definite comparison within the poem between hope on one side expressed with words like â€Å"warm,† â€Å"soul,† â€Å"sweetest,† and pain of life expressed in words like â€Å"storm,† â€Å"gales,† â€Å"chillest. † (Gray, n. p. ) Although there is a clear struggle between these two elements, it is clear which one comes out above as the voice of hope can still be heard through the gales and storms. Throughout the poem, it is clear that whatever the battles we may confront, hope conquers through in the end.

So, the team Femme Noir consists of an artist Duke Windsor, a fashion designer Osbaldo Ahumada, a documenter Susan Lazear, and a school representative Andrea Marx from SD Mesa College. The project Femme Noir was inspired with the image and the entire mood created by the Queen of the Night and her aria in The Magic Flute by Mozart. Fantastic and close-to-life elements can be found in the sculptures being a golden middle of the fashion and art meeting. Femme Noir is the name of the team that emerged from the image of a woman who knows how to survive in the world of the dark middle ages. So, the team members managed to apply the historic perspective and mood of the aria to the sculpture and painting in a fashionable manner using extravagant colors and irregular shapes. The exhibition of this team’s project will take place in Dolcetti Boutique to encourage the audience to join the world of fashion through art and vice versa. People that are interested in collaboration between representatives of different fields and development of technologies and useful ideas can find something new in this project as it is aimed at showing the transformation undergone by a queen from Mozart’s aria to fashionable issues created by the Femme Noir team. Discussion questions Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Discussion questions - Coursework Example The care factor of the nursing profession is an art and without being skillful in this art, the science of nursing isn’t very helpful.    When people say that they understand something, an idea or a concept, which can be as simple as learning how a machine or a software works or as complicated as Rene Decarte’s philosophy of existence, it is that comprehension, knowledge or understanding of the subject which is enveloped in the term epistemology. In other words, the very definition of the word ‘knowledge’ is epistemology.    Empiricism is the learning method that deems only the experience or the evidence a credible source for learning something. The five senses of touch, smell, taste, hearing and sight are the only channels that can qualify rough information as knowledge once it has gone through the test of experience.    Pospositivism is just a critical analysis of positivism. This form of positivism deems the studies ‘subjective’, where the prerequisite is that the subject and researcher are independent of each other and therefore the study or the conclusion is valid and ‘objective’. A paradigm is where distinct concepts (theories and practices) exist in coherence. This concept gives nurses the liberty to amend the nursing theories according to their specific situation in order to meet their goals.    The metaparadigm of nursing is defined by the following 4 concepts: person, environment, health, and nursing. Do you agree within this global representation of nursing? Why or why not? Would you add any other components or sub-components?   I would not add any other components to the definition of metaparadigm. The four concepts of; person, environment, health and nursing are comprehensive and all-inclusive. Nursing practice revolves around the person (patient) and everything is attached to responding to the patient’s needs. The environment is second most important factor. A nurse trained

Motivation Calculus Theory by Charles Handy Essay

Motivation Calculus Theory by Charles Handy - Essay Example The Charles Handy idea of organization culture fits in into the Quinn Competing Value Framework theory of 1988 developed to conduct a research for indicators of effective organization which has two variants, that of management and leadership. Quinn came up with comprehensive list of indicators that influence company success focusing dimensions with the first one relating external vs. external and the second was flexibility vs. control. The two dimensions created a quadrant grid with each quadrant representing one of the four major organization model of management i.e. human relation model, open system model, internal process model, and rational goal mode (Quinn & Rohrbaugh, 2009). In the Competing Value Framework, the four models examine how effective management plays all the roles and simultaneously balance with the competing demands of other sets of expectation. Therefore, the two perspectives have a common goal of ensuring cohesion between organization stakeholders to realize a su ccess in the organization objective.Charles Handy organizational culture is discussed under the four categories of culture and depicts a correlation in objective to the Quinn Competing Value Framework expounded in the four models. Handy’s power model of culture assumes that organization power of an organization power remains in a few individuals within the organization and they have authority to decision making. ... Such people delegate duties and responsibilities to their subordinate who have limited or no option other than to strictly adore their superiors’ instructions. In such a culture, employees have restricted liberty to share their ideas or views on open forums and can follow instruction given to them (Amos & al, 2009). Similarly, the other hand, Quinn in his human relation model view managers as the source of authority and should ensure control and cohesion of the subordinates managing interpersonal conflicts. However, Quinn assumes the manager as a facilitator should encourage teamwork cooperating human resource and mentoring in approachable manner, taking them not as isolated individuals but engage them in the development of workforce through training, care, and empathy. The two theorists have an agreement in sense that, for success of an organization, there have to be a central source of authority to manage the human resource and the activities to achieve objectives. When Quin n in his Open System model view people should not be controlled but inspired, likewise Charles Handy in Task Culture agree people in an organization can deliberately work as a team with common interest to achieve their target. Open System Model take note on those organizations are established by people and exists in an environment in which it have to adapt to changes. The people forming the human resource should be responsible and read to grow in their different field to facilitate effectiveness in their work (Black, 2003). Quinn also asserts that the organization will depend on external support to acquire necessary resources for production. These processes lead to

Construction Plan for Business Expansion | Case Study

Construction Plan for Business Expansion | Case Study BEJAY GILOI YAPP Task 1 SENARIO 1 Building economics is a small part of a much larger subject of environmental economics whereby it consists of the application of the techniques and expertise of economics to construction projects. Its is important as economics are introduced in the early design stage for the entire build team and even for the client. This is concerned with the study of man’s needs in connection with shelter and the suitable and appropriate conditions in which to live. Building economics is also important to ensure that the resources available to the industry is effectively used and not wasted. Moreover, it ensures the increase rate of growth of construction work in the most efficient manner. Consideration must be given to other economic aspects such as the roles of the profession and the division of design and construction. Furthermore, the types of development and the size of the industry and its relationship to other industries should also be considered. Lastly, it is important that the types and sizes of construction firms and the variations in building costs and its influencing factors to be considered. Task 2 SCENARIO 2 Before Mr. Hashim should purchase a new office block to expand his business, I would advice him about a few factors that he might need to consider. The factors are as follows: One of the factors that Mr. Hashim should consider is the Accessibility. The site should be easily accessible by automobile and within walking distance of some potential users. Mr. Hashim should also count in the safety of the location whereby it would be safe for potential users to work in the proposed location. Next, is the Visibility of the office block. It is important that a prominent location is required so that the users can easily identify the office block. Visual Quality is also one of the factors that should be taken as the quality of the existing neighborhood or surroundings needs to complement with the office block. For example, it is not appropriate to set up an office whereby the surrounding buildings are residential buildings. Moreover, Mr. Hashim should consider on the Site Capacity whereby the site should be large enough to provide sufficient space for the users including parking space or for future expansion. Most importantly, Mr. Hashim should consider on the rental cost or the building cost of the proposed office property. It should be reasonable or to say atleast following his budget. This is to ensure that the rentals or price of the office block are affordable so that he can run his business accordingly and in the same time his business can be profitable. Lastly, Mr. Hashim should also consider the Facilities provided around the office property. For example, the presence of restaurants, cafes and department stores which will be really beneficial for him and his workers as they will not need to travel far to have there meals during Break hours. We can almost say that the meaning of the words Value and Cost are almost similar, although when it comes to building economic terms, these two components have totally different definitions. Value is usually meant by the sum of original cost estimates and assumptions. Although in building economic terms, value can be defined as the measure of benefits that an individual or company can gain either form goods or service. In construction, value is what the building is worth based on various market rates. It can be said that the as the demand and supply for a particular building or product increases, the value will also increase accordingly. Value can also be the amount of money that say, an asset has for a certain time period whether at present or any other time. There are few factors that can affect the value of a certain building. As for example the Location of a proposed project as a 2 Story Bungalow build in the center of the city has a different Value compared to a 2 Story Bungalow built in the village. Cost can be defined as the expenses or actual cost of a given project. In other words, it can also be defined as the total price of the project itself beginning from the design process to the finishing. This can be related to the components of cost which are the labor cost, material cost, plant and equipment cost, overhead cost and also the profit. These components can majorly affect the cost. For example, during the construction process of a given project, there happens to be a major breakdown on the equipment used. This will surely affect the end cost of the project. Task 3 SCENARIO 3 Wall to Floor Area Ratio is the measurement of the total floor area built or to be built in relation to the total size measurement of the project. The Wall to Floor Area Ratio is calculated by dividing the External Wall Area (EWA) by the Gross Floor Area (GFA) and the result ratio can be used to compare the building designs. Calculations:(Floor Height = 3m) External Wall Area (EWA) = (10+10+10+10) X 3 = 120 Gross Floor Area (GFA) = (10 X 10) = 100 EWA GFA = 120100 = 1.2 Calculations:(Floor Height = 3m) External Wall Area (EWA) = (10+5+15+5+10+5) = 150 Gross Floor Area (GFA) = A (10 X 5) + B (10 X 5) = 100 EWA GFA = 150100 = 1.5 FIRST SECOND Gross Floor Area (GFA) (10 X 10) = 100 A(10 X 5) + B(10 X 5) = 100 External Wall Area (EWA) (10+10+10+10) X 3 = 120 (10+5+15+5+10+5) = 150 EWA/GFA 1.2 1.5 Based on the calculations, the FIRST floor plan is more economical because it has a lower wall to floor ratio which is 1.2 compared to the SECOND floor plan with a wall to floor area ratio of 1.5. The lower the wall to floor ratio, the more economic will be the design. Task 4 SCENARIO 4 (i) Time- Time can be defined as the given period or length of time during any construction process. Time should be discussed in detail to the client so that they may know when the construction project starts and when is the given time for the completion of the project to be done according to the deadline. (ii) Cost It is the total cost of the project to be finished up or completed. The cost of a given project should be carefully analyzed and controlled from over budgeting and causing problems to the build team and especially to the client. Cost can come from the proposed land the project to be built, the materials used for construction and other various factors. (iii)Quality It is based on the finished product and will be judged by the client itself either from the quality of design, its looks and its overall function. It is also judged through the ability of the contractor to execute the project in such a way that the finished product is according to the client expectations and that the finished product does what it is intended. The three components, Time, Cost and Quality in the construction industry do play a big role in the success of a construction project. Although, these components should be balanced to ensure the success of a construction project. For example, if we reduce the time for a given project, the cost will drastically increase and the quality of work also increase. For example, Mr. Kumar is deciding to further expand his current business. He currently owns a 2 Block Restaurant and now he is deciding to extend his restaurant. Although, there are a few factors that have to be suggested by Mr. Kumar’s consultant in order to minimize the total end cost of the project itself. It would be great for Mr. Kumar to have a specific time line for the construction of the new extension of his current restaurant. This is to ensure that expenses for the project will be used by the best way possible and that his investment is profitable. Having a very short time period of construction process would only burden him as the cost of the construction process will be a bit more expensive but in the other hand, this will result in a great quality in it. The extension of the restaurant will surely be able to have a return on Mr. Kumar’s investment if it has a short time period of construction time and will eventually incur a high price, but in the end hav e a great quality on the project. Task 5 Quality in the construction industry usually means excellence. It is the totality of the attributes of a building in which enable it to satisfy needs, including the way in which individual attributes are related, balanced and integrated in the whole building and its surroundings. Thus, it is also considered a philosophy rather than a mere attribute. For example, we tend to judge the two objects by their qualities. In the construction industry especially in manufacturing, quality can be divided into different parts such as quality control, quality assurance and many others. Quality in the construction industry can also be devided into different views, which are the customer’s view itself, the producer’s view and the government’s view. In Malaysia, we have certain certifying bodies based on the construction projects. For example, we have Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) and Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) whereby these bodies set their own regulations to con trol the Quality of work according to the views of different clients. Whereby Standards in the construction industry is more to achieving a recognized level of quality within an organization. For example, to ensure that a proper standard of insulation is done and the proper standard of carpentry is done on a house according to the given standards within an organization. For Standards, there are also several certifying bodies in Malaysia. For example, SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd. And Bureau Verritas Certification Sdn. Bhd. Which is responsible of controlling the standards on the construction products in Malaysia. There are three categories of quality cost. Firstly, is the Prevention Cost whereby its main purpose is to avoid defects on the product in the beginning of production stage. It also supports activities whose purpose is to reduce the number of defects of the products. For example, this costs in put in place through methods and procedures which ensures that the product is made according to its standards, meet its requirements and that it is made according to the design. Secondly, is the Appraisal Cost, whereby it is usually influenced by a third party. Appraisal Cost or also know as Inspection Cost where its main function is to identify defective products before the products are shipped to costumers. For example, some sample of the products pass through another inspection test or quality test before being certified to be packed and shipped to the costumers. Lastly, is the Inter Failure Cost whereby this cost is divided into two, which are Internal Failure Cost and External Failure Cost. Internal Failure Cost is a result from identification of defects before they are shipped to customers while the External Failure Cost include warranty, repairs and replacements of the product.

Guenevers Love Triangle Essay -- Literary Analysis, The Once and Futu

Nowadays you hear about people cheating on each other and think of it as nothing. In the time period T.H. White’s, The Once and Future King was set, it was a crime as sinful as killing a person. Guenever is a heartless and conniving woman, who gets away with ‘murder’, just because she is the Queen of England. Throughout the book, Guenever is characterized as weak and evil, because her decisions and behavior affect Arthur, Lancelot, and herself negatively. To begin, Guenever manipulates Lancelot’s feelings. She is the majority of his problems and dilemmas. Lancelot tries not to betray Arthur’s trust and save his virtue, but his love for Guenever is making his decisions that much harder. She would tell him to â€Å"’Come back soon’† (340) and leave as she pleased. It affects Lancelot’s ability to maintain his integrity, because Guenever is confusing him, by giving him mixed signals. She makes him think about going against Christianity and the idea of chivalry, two things that he lives by. â€Å"You have won him, and you have broken him. What will you do with him next?† said Elaine (396). Lancelot is confused and he can’t focus on anything other than Guenever, no matter where he is. She is breaking him down emotionally, to the extent where he starts hating himself for loving her. Then, when Guenever finds out about Lancelot and Elaine sleeping together in her castle, she goes ballis tic. â€Å"’Get out of my castle,’ screamed the queen at the top of her voice. ‘Never show your face in it again, your evil, ugly, beastlike face,’† (395). Having his beloved say this to him causes him to lose it, leading him to jump out of the window. No one knew what happened to him. A couple of years later when Lancelot was living with Elaine, the mother of his child... ...y close friends. In all, twenty knights were killed, including Gaheris and Gareth, who were unarmed. Their deaths and the Guenever’s illegitimate relationship are grounds to begin a war on. This war eventually leads to King Arthur’s death. Guenever made Arthur’s life more difficult, rather than supporting him like a good wife should have. Guenever not only affects Arthur and Lancelot negatively throughout their lives, but also numerous people around her. She is Arthur’s and Lancelot’s largest weakness. Guenever gets herself and the people around her into trouble, and makes their lives miserable in some way or another. Ultimately Guenever’s bad judgment and decisions made she was the source of a lot of problems and controversies. Cheating on someone you love was much more scandalous in that period of time than it is now, but it is still not the right thing to do.

We realized this important thing and now we have found that there are two types of food, organic and unorganic food. Many people still missunderstanding about the definition of organic and unorganic food. They tend to think that organic food is the healthiest food and unorganic food is a bad food. Actually, organic food is made in a way that complies with organic standards set by national governments and international organizations. Unorganic or non-organic food is which was produced without the use of hormones, antibiotics (for non-medicinal purposes), synthetic fertilizers or pesticides in accordance with the USDA National Organic Program (NOP). The use of the term is regulated by the NOP and only those products that meet the standards may use the term. Therefore all other products would be non-organic or unorganic. From the definition, we can see that organic and unorganic food are not the same. Organic food is healthier than unorganic food since it is pesticide-free, but it also has a worse appearance than organic food. First, organic food is healthier than unorganic food. The unorganic food, on the other hand, contain many dangerous chemicals that can harm our health. The farmer use pesticide or other dangerous chemicals to make the food grow faster. The effects do not appear immediately, it appears when we eat too much unorganic food. It a sign that our body can not accept those dangerous chemicals anymore. It is a fact that organic food is healthier than unorganic food. Unorganic food has a better appearance than organic food. Unorganic food farmer uses chemicals to make the harmful insects get away from his plant. The farmer also uses chemicals to make his food shining, clean, and interesting so the consumers will prefer to buy his unorganic food than organic food. The Stereotypes Of Women In Shirley Jacksons The Lottery

The short story â€Å"The Lottery† by Shirley Jackson, published in 1948, took place following the second world war, and the author writes with the war’s aftermath in mind. In the story, a village that runs an annual lottery that one lucky person gets to win. The winner however, is granted death. By stoning of all things from the rest of the villagers. As this story takes place in the late 40s, a patriarchal society based theme is heavily present and the emphasis on womens rights and their freedom of speech is noticeable in nearly all aspects. From daily household chores that are stereotyped as a woman’s job, to the comfort of being alone and feeling out of place in public environments. One thing to note is that when Jackson wrote â€Å"The†¦show more content†¦The word forced, emphasizes the stereotypical nature of men being more physical which although is less noticed in today’s world, is still there. The second element that Jackson explains well is the treatment of women by other male authoritative figures such as their husbands, or fathers in contrast from the views of 2017 to 1948. An immediate instance is when Bobby Martin ignores his mother’s call until her fifth time and then he runs by her laughing, dismissing her call. He doesn’t respect his mother’s authority, however when his father calls, Bobby has an immediate reaction to stop and slowly sulk towards his parents, therefore respecting his fathers authority. Mrs. Hutchinson has the unfortunate side of being the one to be stoned and she clearly voices her thoughts about how it wasn’t fair. It’s understandable to be upset in a circumstance where at the time, one of your family members were about to die, nevertheless her husband Bill Hutchinson says to her, â€Å"Shut up, Tessie,† (Jackson, 5). His loyalty to the lottery is clear even when it comes to a position where you would lose a child or your wife. It’s his tone and choice of wording that defines this statement. No comforting, or consoling. These two story elements of â€Å"The Lottery† are abundant with statements that show the lack of equalityShow MoreRelatedCriticism in the Short Story The Lottery1660 Words   |  7 Pagesï » ¿ Criticism in The Lottery This paper will examine the short story, The Lottery, by Shirley Jackson, with the aids of lenses such as cultural criticism and feminist criticism.
